Inauguration of the 41st Conference of the Indian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 01 Feb 2013, NIMHANS, Bangalore
41st Annual Conference of Indian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IAPMR), IAPMRCON 2013 was organized by Neurological Rehabilitation Division (Dr. A B Taly, Dr.
Anupam Gupta, Dr. Meeka Khanna, Dr. Rashmi and others), Department of Psychiatric and Neurological Rehabilitation, NIMHANS from 31st January to 3rd February, 2013 at NIMHANS
The prestigious conference of IAPMR was attended by around 300 delegates from across the country and outside. The conference included a one day workshop on “Stroke and
Rehabilitation” which was also very well attended by over 100 delegates. The workshop was appreciated a lot for its theme and comprehensive topics chosen. The workshop was
introduced by Dr. A B Taly who very well elucidated the history of diagnosis and management of stroke patients and emphasized the need of comprehensive management of stroke
survivors. After inauguration and introduction, there were a series of 16 exhaustive lectures by people very well recognized in their fields of specialization. The lectures
included basics from early diagnosis and management by a Neurologist, role of surgery in management of stroke patients and role of Neuro imaging and intervention in stroke. After
that there were a number of lectures by Physiatrists on the topics of rehabilitation issues in these patients. The last session included topics pertaining to cognitive,
speech-language and psychological issues in patients with stroke.
The workshop was successful in highlighting the team and holistic management of patients with stroke. The workshop was very much appreciated by the post graduates who
found the programme very useful.
The conference was inaugurated on 1st day by Mr. M Madan Gopal, IAS (Principal Secretary, Government of Karnataka) and presided over by Dr. P Satish Chandra, Director and
Vice Chancellor, NIMHANS. Dr. V Ravi, Registrar, NIMHANS was special invitee.
The inauguration was followed by key note address by renowned Physiatrist, Dr. Suranjan Bhattacharjee, (Professor and Head, Department of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation and Ex-Director, CMC, Vellore).
Madhuri Yadav Memorial IAPMR oration was given by IAPMR past president, Dr. Ajit Verma.
The post lunch session on the first day of conference was parallel CME session. A number of topics were included in each CME session on “Rehabilitation in Myelopathies” and
“Pain and musculoskeletal Rehabilitation”.
After an exhaustive scientific session, there was cultural programme of bharatnatyam dance by a group.
The second day of the conference started with plenary sessions on cardiac rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. One hour
workshop on botulinum injection in spasticity was also conducted.
A large number of faculty and post graduates participated in free paper sessions and poster presentation and shared their scientific experiences.
The conference concluded on third day with valedictory function and appreciation from all the members of the association.
