Department of
Psychopharmacology
The
Department
came into existence towards the end of 1983, believes in inter- departmental and inter- institutional
collaborations. The department is awaiting clinical research unit to be established in collaboration
with the clinical department or having its own clinical unit.
Objectives
- To provide specialized clinical services for Neurosychiatric disorders particularly when
diagnosis needs to be confirmed.
- To provide information on study state plasma levels of psychotropic drugs for Clinical
Management, Dosage Scheduling, Side Effects, Toxicity, Over dosage and Poisoning.
- To provide therapeutic drug monitoring.
- To establish pharmacokinetic database for psychotropic drugs for the Indian population.
Human Resource Development
Department has Doctoral
training program, teaching services to Psychiatry and clinical Neurosciences departments.

- Neurodynamics
- Psychopharmacology of stress
- Electroconvulsive therapy
Contributions
Know-how on Biomental Signal Processing, Collaborations with various institutions like IISc and DEBEL.
Future Plans
- To understand the brain functions.
- To create a synthetic model of higher cognitive functions using nonlinear dynamics.
