Psychiatric and Neurological
Rehabilitation
Neurological Division
A
separate rehabilitation department was created in the institute for patients with psychiatric and
neurological illness in the year 1985. The department also has the unique distinction of being the
only department in the whole country where rehabilitation services are provided exclusively as super
specialty (Neurological Rehabilitation). Activities of the department include clinical services,
training and research in neurological rehabilitation. The department has outpatient, inpatient and
day care services. There are 22 beds for inpatient neurological rehabilitation. Staff pattern is
multidisciplinary in nature. The neurological rehabilitation division provides inpatient services to
the patients with brain lesion including head injury, Strokes, spinal cord lesions, neuromuscular
disorders and holistic approach in the management of patients with cerebral palsy including corrective
surgeries.
Objectives
- To bring together, under one roof, all services required for the rehabilitation of the
patients with the neurological disabilities
- To develop and test various innovative models of
rehabilitation
- To train professionals, workers of Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs) and
community based rehabilitation workers, on the principles of rehabilitation
- To propagate
the concepts of neurological rehabilitation

Neurological Rehabilitation
- Inpatient and outpatient neuro-rehabilitation in the rehabilitation department
- Management of cerebral palsy including botulinum toxin and limb corrective surgeries
- Urodynamics to manage neurogenic bladder
- Preparation of limb and spinal orthoses for
patients with neurological illness
- Inpatient and Outpatient physiotherapy
- Inpatient and Outpatient occupational therapy
- Neurodevelopmental therapy services
