Casualty and Emergency -

The department caters to neurosurgical patients primarily for the patients from the state of Karnataka and neighboring districts of the adjoining states. About 5-10% of the inpatients are drawn from the different parts of the country especially the northeast. It also provides quality emergency and trauma care. The casualty and emergency services are run 24 hours a day, manned by junior, senior residents and a member of the faculty. The casualty block has 3 areas identified according to the emergency patient care requirement as priority I, II and III areas. Ten beds are available separately for observing patients who need short-term emergency admissions.

Out Patient services -

Out patient services for non-emergency cases are run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from morning 9.00 A.M. On an average about 150 new and old patients are seen per day in these services. Special Clinics attending to trauma follow-up patients function on Wednesdays and a clinic attending to the special problem of spina bifida patients function on Friday.

A modern fully equipped intensive care facility is available and can manage 10 neurosurgical patients requiring respiratory and critical care at a time. This facility also has a modern ventilator, monitor and equipment to monitor intracranial pressure in each patient, in all the ten beds, with ideal nursing staff ratio. A resident neuroanaesthetist and a neurosurgeon man this intensive care facility round the clock.

There are 6 fully equipped operation theatres and one is reserved 24 hours a day round the year only for emergencies. The other 5 theaters run 5 days a week (Monday – Friday) for elective surgery.
