 Mental Health Education

Vision
To promote health, prevent diseases/conditions, facilitate timely and informed care, and foster rehabilitation.

Mission

1. To develop scientifically accurate and culturally appropriate health education and training strategies and materials utilising innovative communication technology.
2. To focus on research that has relevance to behaviour and social change.
3. To contribute to the development of human resources equipped to bring about behaviour and social change.

Objectives

1. To develop scientifically accurate and culturally appropriate health education / training materials on two priority health issues addressed in NIMHANS utilising innovative communication technology.
2. To provide quality documentation services.
3. To help incorporate skills in qualitative research methodology for postgraduate students in NIMHANS by organising ad hoc training courses and providing guidance to post graduate researchers.
4. To contribute to training /teaching that addresses health and socio-cultural issues.
5. To carry out research on socio-cultural and health behaviour issues in a sensitive and ethical manner.

Functions

1. Developing good quality health education interventions with respect to issues that have a bearing on mental health and neurological disorders.
2. Assist in the development of human resource for tackling health problems.
3. Carry out research on social cultural issue and human behaviour which relevance to health.

Infrastructure

Equipments

• 3 CCCD Mini Digital Video Cameras (2).
• Digital Single-Lens Reflex (SLR) Professional Camera with zoom lens and macro (2)
• Audio Visual Equipment (2 VCRs, 10 TVs, LCD projector, slide projectors (2 ), overhead projector and DVD players ).

Facilities

• Facility for Non –linear Editing
• Conversion from VHS to MPEG 1 or 2
• Softwares for vector illustration, page layout, photo editing, tracing, web graphics and animation
• CCTV facility at the OPD- TVs with equipped broadcast in-house content as well as programmes from Doordarshan Dish to all the TVs in the OPD waiting halls
